Bitcoin has changed a few times in its history, and we're now at a point of several proposals for new changes. In this 45m panel we invite a host of experienced developers to talk about their successes and plans for changing bitcoin.
It seems that changes proposed to bitcoin are never without controversy. For this panel, we pull together veterans of the space who have dealt with their own amount of controversy over the years.
Why are lightning nodes keeping payment routing logs forever? Tor doesn't keep logs, even if you want it to. Yet Lightning nodes are keeping these logs forever, undermining the privacy protections of onion routing by creating a massive honeypot of data that could be used to deanonymize lightning transactions. In this talk will look at what data is kept, what data actually needs to be kept, and ask why implementations keep unnecessary data.
How do the current widely used coinjoin protocols compare, and how private are they actually? We'll go through the big three: payjoin, joinmarket, and wasabi, and review what they are and what flaws they have.
Our MC Walton sits down with developers and other technical thinkers to discuss the use and effectiveness of filters that currently exist within the Bitcoin protocol - and proposed changes from the community.
How can you change mempool policies? You don't necessarily need a pull-req merged by Bitcoin Core. Here we'll go over real world examples of my attempts, successful, and not yet successful, at changing mempool policies by just writing code and convincing other people to run it. We'll talk about what kinds of changes are feasible, the role of peering, and what it actually takes to release a fork of Core (if you're lazy like me)
Why it can be useful to make outputs impossible to spend after a deadline, and how we can make this reasonably reorg safe.
Transaction pinning is potential threat to many multi-party protocols such as lightning. Yet it's also an economic exploit: miners are leaving money on the table. Here we'll look at replace-by-fee-rate, an incentives-based solution to pinning that both fixes the problem, and earns miners more money.
