Cluster mempool
- Time
- Wed, May 7 · 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM
- Location
- Main Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 45m
I will talk about the ongoing Cluster Mempool project, which aims to rework how reasoning about dependent unconfirmed transactions in the Bitcoin Core mempool implementation work, for eviction, mining, RBF evaluation, fee estimation, and more. To motivate, I will discuss how this reasoning is done today, why that's broken, and how the cluster mempool project seeks to fix the problems with it, as well as additional benefits it may provide. Depending on interest, I can go further into implementation status, impact it will have on transaction relay policy, or future improvements that are possible.

How can you change mempool policies? You don't necessarily need a pull-req merged by Bitcoin Core. Here we'll go over real world examples of my attempts, successful, and not yet successful, at changing mempool policies by just writing code and convincing other people to run it. We'll talk about what kinds of changes are feasible, the role of peering, and what it actually takes to release a fork of Core (if you're lazy like me)

- Location
- Talks Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration

A deep-dive into Stratum V1 mining templates and what their aggregated analysis reveals about mining pool operations. From these templates, we can extract meaningful insights about pool behaviors, coordination patterns, network characteristics, and bugs. I'll give a quick break-down of the Stratum V1 protocol's "mining.notify" message structure and how visualizing this data across multiple pools can show us interesting mining pool behaviors. I'll step through ~2 different recent cases using historical Stratum V1 data to understand pool behavior and cooperation: 1. Caching bug in Antpool's coinbase transaction builder: https://b10c.me/observations/14-antpool-and-friends-invalid-mining-jobs/ 2. Solana token marketing stunt: https://x.com/boerst/status/1882429452229198021 This presentation will appeal to those interested in mining pool centralization markers and the communication protocols that underpin the network today.

Me and Topher (aka; cmdruid, aka; btctechsupport) would like to do a technical talk about on our application of FROST for our project Frostr (https://frostr.org) FROSTR is a simple k-of-n threshold signature protocol that enables distributed signers to securely communicate, verify requests, and create partial signatures over nostr relays, requiring only a single round of communication. Me and Topher will walk through our approach in applying FROST in a simple yet effective manner optimized for individuals. We will talk about different tradeoffs and assumptions that we made in our implementation as well as showcasing some cryptography/application tricks that we leveraged to make it all possible! Frostr is live and working today! We have two applications both with signed releases (Igloo & Frost2x) that allow you to create a 2/3 keyset and move individual shares to each application to create distributed signatures (and encryption/decryption methods) in real time on all your favorite nostr clients! Everything mention can be found on https://frostr.org and our github https://github.com/frostr-org

The modern mining pool tech stack is optimized for industrial mining farms. But that is rapidly changing. With the declining block subsidy, explosion of interest in heat reuse, and renaissance in open source software and hardware it is clear that the future belongs to small scale miners. In this talk I will examine how FOSS proxy pool software can leverage free market forces to bring decentralization and privacy to the lowest layers of the bitcoin tech stack.

GroundWire: Relaunching Urbit Identity on Bitcoin, with Nostr Applications
- Time
- Thu, May 8 · 10:30 AM – 11:15 AM
- Location
- Workshops Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 45m
Urbit is a 20-year project to reconstruct the computing stack on principles similar to Bitcoin's with respect to money: permanence, simplicity, self-sovereignty, and Internet/P2P-first architecture. Since 2016, its networking protocol has included a global identity layer using blockchain consensus. Unfortunately, due to perceived technical limitations at the time, that consensus has been Ethereum's. GroundWire is a "UASF" of this identity layer and networking protocol, enabling Urbit nodes to discover each other and attest their encryption keys on the Bitcoin timechain using an extension of the ordinals protocol. Maintaining these nodes' ability to communicate with existing nodes - hence a "soft fork" - has had the promising side effect of creating a very simple avenue for Nostr integration that would enable Nostr users to take advantage of features like key rotation, relayless discovery and data persistence, and spam resistance that have thus far been issues for that network.

Intro Hashrate Accounting: Mining for the masses
- Time
- Thu, May 8 · 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM
- Location
- Workshops Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 45m
This talk explores the concept of Hashrate Accounting and its potential to enhance Bitcoin privacy and expand mining operations. Beginning with an examination of the Bitcoin mining network's massive scale (600 exahashes/second), we'll discuss how hashrate marketplaces function and why miners sell their computational power. The presentation explains the role of hashrate proxies in facilitating forward privacy on-chain. Finally, we'll explain how Rigly brokers hashrate between miners and retail customers, and how we are facilitating the expansion of mining operations in areas with stranded energy.
