Atomic, Reliable, Doomed — A Bitcoin-Fiat QR Payment Post-Mortem
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 12:15 PM – 12:30 PM
- Location
- Main Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 15m
I set out to build a better way to pay QR codes with Bitcoin — no local bank account, no KYC, and unlike existing peer-matched solutions, instant and near-100% reliable on a per-payment basis, by putting one entity on both legs: Lightning in, fiat out, atomically. There was no API for the fiat leg, so I did some magic against the real banking app to make it work. Each payment went through — but the approach itself was fragile, one UI update away from breaking. This talk is a short, honest post-mortem: why the version that actually did the job doesn't survive its own success — one bank account carrying real volume is a regulatory target, and a banking UI automated for payments is a technical one.

I will release a paper (mid-September) that combines silent payments with multiparty signatures, such as FROST and MuSig2 (and nested constructions). I can tell you how it works: the construction itself, an accompanying aggregated DLEQ proof, aspects of multiparty sender and recipient, etc.

- Duration

This talk covers what it takes to build a wallet with silent payments at the core. How compact tweak data makes on-device scanning practical on a phone instead of a server. I'll be equally specific about what it doesn't buy you: amount analysis, sender-side leaks, and everything opsec still has to cover.

Privacy in the age of AI
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM
- Location
- Main Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 30m
Recent attacks have drained more than 1800 BTC from supposedly "secure" cold wallets through a firmware flaw. Meanwhile, new vulnerabilities are discovered in the software we trust every day. AI supercharges surveillance, turns harmless metadata into intimate knowledge, and quietly destroys our old assumptions about privacy. What can we do to safeguard ourselves, protect our information and our sats, and make sure it doesn't fall in the wrong hands? A cold wallet isn’t much comfort when everything around it is leaking.

Bitcoin Message Signing: From Signatures to Private Proofs
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 5:00 PM – 5:30 PM
- Location
- Main Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 30m
Bitcoin message signing has evolved from signmessage through BIP-137 to BIP-322. This talk traces that history and explores how today’s zero-knowledge virtual machines could turn message signatures into private proofs of claims such as balance thresholds. What can we build with existing tools, what stays private, and what must a verifier check against public Bitcoin data?

Rose: A stateless light wallet for businesses: private by construction, attested at runtime
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM
- Location
- Talks Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 45m
This talk introduces Rose, an open-source light wallet for self-custody and e-commerce. Rose exposes Bitcoin Core's RPC dialect, so existing payment integrations work unchanged. Unlike Electrum- and Esplora-backed wallets, Rose syncs over BIP-157 compact block filters and adds a live mempool feed for incoming-payment notifications, giving fast sync and 0-conf visibility without ever sending an address to a third-party server. It is stateless: the wallet is rebuilt from a seed, a derivation path and a birthday. That property is what lets Rose run inside a trusted execution environment, where the seed is released only to an attested, reproducible image, and where spending policies for e-commerce workflows can be enforced by code a counterparty verifies from the build hash. We walk through what a light wallet leaks, what it cost to close each leak, and what an enclave does and does not protect against. Rose is built in Rust on BDK, Kyoto and StageX.

ROASTing cheaper Fedimint Onchain Transactions
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM
- Location
- Talks Stage
- Type
- talk
- Duration
- 45m
Fedimint is a federated ecash system designed for high availability and privacy. Federations hold Bitcoin that backs in mint in an onchain multisig and the federation uses a Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus algorithm to come to consensus on the ordering of transactions within the system. Fedimint up until this point has used a P2WSH onchain multisig descriptor, but this does not scale well when the number of servers within the federation increases, because P2WSH requires a signature per signer. This talk will focus on how we upgraded Fedimint to use Taproot, FROST, and ROAST to collapse the required signatures to one, regardless of the federation size. This enables larger federations, without sacrificing on cost or onchain privacy. This talk will also demonstrate the cost savings and privacy benefits of upgrading Fedimint's signing mechanism to use ROAST.

The Words That Get You Flagged: Why Privacy Tools Sound Like Scams
- Time
- Thu, Nov 5 · 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM
- Location
- Talks Stage
- Type
- workshop
- Duration
- 30m
Years doing scam prevention and Bitcoin education in Central Bank (National Bank of Slovakia) taught me the red-flag words compliance people are trained to catch — "anonymous," "untraceable," "no questions asked." The same words show up in legitimate privacy tools' own marketing. A practical look at the language that gets builders miscategorized, and how to describe real privacy features without sounding like the thing you're not.

- talk
- Duration

Lightning let you attach a free text note — BOLT11, LNURL-pay, BOLT12. Today that memo travels in plaintext. if a cusodial wallet or a swap/bridge service processes your payment, it's operator's node reads and stores everything you wrote. In this talk i introduce a new bLIP draft that fixes this: E2E-encrypted payer nodes. we reuse the existing memo fields and carry one extra payload in them. built with the battle-tested NaCI. the receiving node it self, and cusodians in between all see only ciphertext; your counterparty's app is the only reader. We'll walk through the real-world privacy failure scenarios, the key separation and discovery design, and a step-by-step LNURL-pay `comment` path from invoice request to decryption on settlement.

Building a New Rust Bitcoin Node in the AI Era

- Duration
- 1h
Bitcoin Core’s conservatism and stability are major reasons for its success, but they also make radical architectural experimentation increasingly expensive. bitcoin-rs asks what a Bitcoin full node would look like if designed again today. In this talk, I compare Bitcoin Core, btcd, and Electrum architectures, identify boundaries and duplicated responsibilities that become difficult to evolve, and show how bitcoin-rs approaches them differently. I’ll also show how AI is used to accelerate implementation and exploration, where it tends to fail, and how human architectural judgment, review, and reproducible verification are used to keep those failures from becoming part of the system.
