Wandia Mugo is an open-source Bitcoin developer, full-stack software engineer, and UI/UX designer based in Nairobi, Kenya, nominated for the Women in Tech Global Awards 2026 for her work bridging technology and financial inclusion for African women. She pivoted from a Civil Engineering degree (JKUAT) into tech, training at Moringa School and Afro Fem Coders before specializing in Bitcoin protocol development through Bitshala and Dada Devs. As Head of Operations at Bitcoin Dada and Dada Devs, she helps scale Africa's only women-focused open-source Bitcoin training initiative, builds Lightning Network and peer-to-peer financial tools in Python, Rust, Ruby on Rails, and React, and mentors engineering fellows contributing to open source. She is also the founder of Bitcoin Plain Talk, an open-source glossary that translates Bitcoin jargon into plain language and native African languages (Swahili, Kikuyu, Pidgin, Yoruba), aimed at grassroots adoption and building local-language data for future AI models.
