The write-up
SiteSim
A virtual Bitcoin mining site for testing MDK apps, with a curtailment app built on MDK. Mining sites can cut their power use in seconds, which helps the grid and saves money when electricity is expensive. The hard part is deciding which miners to turn down, by how much, and how to bring them back safely. SiteSim lets you try those decisions on a whole simulated site. MDK‘s real Kernel and Workers connect to it as if it were hardware, and every change affects power, heat and profit, so you can measure whether an app actually helps.
The curtailment app
Built on MDK, the app reduces power automatically when:
- Electricity gets too expensive: each miner is judged on whether it’s still making money
- The grid sends an alert: miners drop to eco mode at once, and sleep if a lower limit requires it
- The site reaches a power cap: eco mode comes first, then the least efficient miners sleep When conditions improve, it brings miners back in stages of about 10% of the fleet. It pauses if chips run hot, miners stop answering or it loses its price and grid signals.
What‘s included
- 6 miner brands, plus a simulated power meter, temperature sensors and mining pool
- Repeatable scenarios such as blackouts and price spikes, and faults you can trigger yourself
- A 3D view of the site you can walk through
- A guided tour for first-time users
