Colony is a Bitcoin wallet for money a group holds together. Picture a garden club‘s cash tin, except the key is split between several people and everyone who chips in can see what happens to the money.
Each user has a personal Ark wallet built on Second’s Bark and can join shared pockets. A pocket is a n-of-m FROST threshold wallet using Shepherd‘s bark-frost: m signers each hold a share, any n can approve a payment, and after setup no device holds the whole key. Members who aren’t signers can add money and follow the pocket‘s activity, but they get no share and no spending power.
Coordination runs over Marmot (MDK) in two encrypted groups per pocket. The member group carries payment requests, approvals and activity records. The signer group carries the signing rounds, so members never see custody traffic. Before releasing a commitment or signature share, each signer’s client rebuilds the payment from the request it accepted and checks the destination, amount and fee bound. A message from the coordinator is not enough on its own.
The app is an Odin GUI on top of a Rust bridge over a C ABI.
Limits: the key comes from a one-time trusted-dealer setup, the coordinator has to be online for the pocket to pay.
I‘m also a judge tho… so… I’ll abstain from voting on this for obvious reasons 🙂
